Rollback Hero support guide

Set up Activity Feed history, create checkpoints, and roll back Shopify product changes safely.

Rollback Hero support guide

RWA: Rollback Hero adds a safety layer to Shopify product changes. It records product and variant history, shows before/after diffs, and lets you restore a product to the snapshot before a later change.

Getting started

  1. Install RWA: Rollback Hero from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Open the app in Shopify Admin.
  3. The Activity Feed is the home screen.
  4. Edit a product in Shopify Admin. Product creates, updates, and deletes will appear in the feed after Shopify delivers the change event.

The app is designed to be installed from Shopify App Store or Shopify Admin. You do not need to enter a shop domain on a public login page.

Activity Feed

The Activity Feed shows product change cards with:

  • Product or variant resource
  • Timestamp and change summary
  • Before/after diff for captured fields
  • Actor label where the source is known
  • Product history and Open in Admin links
  • A Rollback action when the event can be restored

Use the filters to narrow the feed by resource type, actor, or date range. Open a product's history to see its stored versions and changes.

Create a checkpoint

Use a checkpoint before a bulk edit or another risky catalog operation:

  1. From the Activity Feed, choose Create checkpoint.
  2. On the checkpoint page, choose Browse catalog.
  3. Select one real product with Shopify's Resource Picker.
  4. Choose Create checkpoint.
  5. Confirm that the checkpoint appears in the Activity Feed.

A checkpoint saves the current product state as a restore point. It does not have a Rollback button on its own; use Rollback on a later product change to restore the product to the earlier snapshot.

Roll back a product

  1. Find the later change in the Activity Feed.
  2. Expand Show diff and check the before and after values.
  3. Choose Rollback.
  4. Confirm the product version you want to restore.
  5. Leave inventory restore off unless you have verified that restoring quantities is safe.
  6. Choose Confirm rollback.

Rollback runs immediately and shows a success or error message. A rollback changes the live Shopify product, so check the diff carefully before confirming.

Inventory restoration

Inventory restoration is optional and off by default. Restoring old quantities after sales or fulfilment activity can oversell products. Only enable it when the historical quantities are known to be correct and the operational impact is understood.

Current limitations

  • Deleted products cannot be restored because their original Shopify product ID is no longer available.
  • Product webhooks do not identify the staff member or collaborator who made an Admin edit. Those events are labelled Unknown — Shopify admin/app.
  • Checkpoints and rollbacks made inside Rollback Hero are labelled as app actions.
  • The current version covers products and variants. Some fields, such as media, handles, variant titles, and SKUs, may appear in history but are not fully restored by every rollback.
  • Product snapshots are bounded for large catalogs and products with many metafields, media items, variants, or inventory levels.

Rollback Hero is a recovery aid, not a replacement for careful change management or independent backups.

Privacy and data

The app stores the shop domain plus product snapshots and diffs needed for the Activity Feed and rollback. It does not intentionally collect customer names, email addresses, addresses, orders, or payment card details.

Product history is retained while the app is installed. Shop-scoped data and sessions are deleted after Shopify's uninstall/redaction process. See the Rollback Hero privacy policy and terms of service.
